A Great Trumpet Will Be Blown

Isaiah builds off of the destruction he foresaw and tells of the final deliverance of Israel. In those days of great trouble, when Israel and Judah hide themselves for a little while, the LORD Himself will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent. Mentioned in Job, Psalms, and Isaiah, Leviathan can either be a literal beast swimming in the sea, or can also refer to the constellations of Draco, Hydra, and Cetus, which are figurative on Satan and his eventual destruction as the story God wrote in the stars shows clearly. The LORD will take His great sword and slay the dragon who lives in the sea.

In that day, a new song will be sung. The LORD will sing of His vineyard, which He watered and guarded. He is not afraid of someone coming against Him, as He would step on them and burn them. But He declares that it would be better if His enemies come to Him and rely on Him alone for protection and make peace with Him. That would be better by far.

Jacob will blossom and take root and fill the world with good fruit, as opposed to their great rebellion against Him ever since the days of Moses. Israel had contended with God, but Gid exiled them and drove them away into all the nations like a scorching east wind. Their sins would be forgiven and pardoned as God destroyed Jerusalem altogether, with all of their false gods within. It would be isolated and forsaken like the desert. Cattle would graze where once a city was. Women would gather sticks for fire in the place where walls once stood. And this has been fulfilled, for Jerusalem was once a plowed field only useful for grazing, until God began bringing His people back into the land.

God’s chosen people were not a people of great discernment. They rebelled against the covenants made. So God brought the promised calamity and God removed His hand of protection and grace, defining them away. In the Day of the LORD, He will bring them back. A great trumpet will blow and those perishing in Egypt and Assyria, and scattered worldwide, would return and worship the LORD on the holy mountain in Jerusalem. God will gather His remnant and His disobedient people will know Him in truth.
